Thanksgiving 2008

Good morning from the mountains. I thought I'd write this early this morning before everyone is awake and gathered together and any thoughts of peace, thankfulness, and tranquility are long gone. Today I won't be cooking a turkey on an ancient barbecue (as it won't fit in my toaster oven) and if it doesn't get done, firing up the antique cookstove to finish it off (if we're lucky it's burned and dry, if not we spend the afternoon waiting for the food poisoning to set it. ) Instead I am traveling to my son's new house he bought with his girlfriend.

My daughter is living with them between graduating from Gene Juarez hair academy and moving to Orlando to attend Full Sail. I guess $10,000 in student loans was not comfortable enough of a debt load. She is beautiful, even more so if you are into tatoos and piercings, which I am not, but she is beautiful, funny, smart, courageous...you'll learn more. She and I will be making the cross-country trek in her less-than-reliable car to Orlando over winter break. The plan is for me to fly back from Orlando, but that could change...Salt Lake City, Denver...Portland...I just bought some great travelling shoes. You'll hear more about those later too.

My son works at a large sporting goods store. He oversees delivery of equipment or something like that. He is very quick witted and acerbic. His girlfriend is the sweetest girl. They have been together since high school. He just turned 23 on the 23rd.

Rounding out our family is my sister. I could not ask for a more level-headed, supportive, thoughtful, competent sister or friend. However, like all of us, she has her quirks. The one most likly to be annoying on Thanksgiving is her eating disorders. I'll keep you posted on that front as well.
